How it works

01

Spin for an era

Each round spins a decade of NBA history — 1950s through the 2020s — and hands you a small pool of real candidates from it.

02

Draft five, one per position

Point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center — every round is locked to the position you actually need, not a free-for-all for the highest stat line.

03

Simulate the season

An era-accurate schedule (48 to 82 games depending on decade) plays out, and a named chemistry breakdown explains exactly why your roster did or didn't go undefeated.

What is 82-0?

82-0 is a free NBA roster-building game: spin for an era, draft five legends across five rounds — one for each position — and simulate a full season to see how close you get to a perfect record. A perfect 82-game regular season is what "82-0" refers to — no real NBA team has ever finished a season undefeated.

It's part of a small but crowded genre of "draft an all-time roster, chase an undefeated season" browser games, several of which also use the "82-0" name — the original went viral in mid-2026 after NBA players and teams started posting their own results. This is an original, independently built game — not a clone of any of them, and not affiliated with any of them. See our full 82-0 games compared guide for how every version differs.

Positional balance actually matters here

Most versions of this game state plainly, in their own published rules, that there are no positional restrictions and no synergy penalties — the mathematically optimal strategy is simply drafting the highest raw stat total every round, whether that leaves you with a balanced roster or five centers. Here, each of the five rounds is locked to a real position, and every completed lineup earns a named "Elite Spacing" or "Twin Playmakers" bonus, or a "Usage Conflict" or "Poor Era Fit" penalty — a real, transparent reason for the result, not just a number.

The schedule length is era-accurate

The NBA didn't always play 82 games. The league played a 48-game slate for its first several seasons in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and the schedule grew across the following two decades before settling at 82 games in 1967-68. The simulation uses the real length for whichever era your roster represents, so a flawless 1950s season and a flawless 2020s season represent a genuinely different amount of work.

Frequently asked questions

What is 82-0?

A free browser game: spin for an era, draft five players — one for each position, point guard through center — then simulate a full NBA season to see how close your roster gets to a perfect, undefeated record. "82-0" refers to a perfect 82-game regular season, the standard modern NBA schedule length.

Is this 82-0 the only game with that name?

No — "82-0" is a widely used, descriptive term across this genre, and several independent, unaffiliated games and sites share the name (including 82-0.com and 82-0-challenge.com). This build is an original, independently developed game. It is not a clone of, or affiliated with, any other product called "82-0."

Is 82-0 free to play?

Yes, entirely free, with no account required to play, save progress, or submit to the leaderboard.

How many players do you draft?

Five picks total, one per position: point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center.

What makes this version different?

Real positional restrictions and a transparent chemistry system. Most games in this genre state plainly that they have no positional requirements and no synergy scoring — the fastest path to a high score is stacking the single highest raw stat total every round, regardless of whether you end up with five shooting guards. Here, every round is locked to a real position, and every completed lineup gets a full, named chemistry breakdown (Elite Spacing, Usage Conflict, Poor Era Fit, and more) explaining exactly why it worked or didn't.

Does the season length change by era?

Yes. The NBA regular season was 48 games in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and grew across the decades to 82 games by 1967-68, where it has stayed ever since (with rare shortened exceptions like lockouts and 2020, which this simulation does not model). The simulation uses an era-accurate schedule length for whichever decade your roster represents, not a fixed 82 regardless of era.

Is there a Daily Challenge and leaderboard?

Yes. Everyone who plays on the same day gets the exact same sequence of draft options, and you can submit your result to a live, public leaderboard — no account required.

Can I compare my draft directly against a friend's?

Yes. Every run generates a shareable seed. Enter someone else's seed on the welcome screen and you'll be put through the exact same sequence of draft options they had — make the same picks for a mirror match, or different picks for a real head-to-head comparison.
